2010 Steele Scholars Named by Community Foundation

The Mid-Shore Community Foundation awarded $125,000 to the second class of Austin and Martha Steele Scholars. Five outstanding public high-school graduates received a four year, $25,000 scholarship at the senior awards programs at Colonel Richardson High School, Kent County High School, North Dorchester High School, Queen Anne’s County High School, and St. Michaels High School.

Newnams Establish Easton Volunteer Fire Department Fund through Mid-Shore Community Foundation

A fireman with the Easton Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) for 54 years, Mike Newnam of Easton, knows what it takes to keep a volunteer fire department running. Equipping one fireman today costs about $8,000 and purchasing a new ladder truck is estimated to cost $1.2 million in 2013, when the EVFD’s ladder truck will need replacing. Newnam and his wife Susan recently set up a fund through the Mid-Shore Community Foundation to help the EVFD maintain its services to residents of Easton and its surrounding areas.

2010 Chesapeake Film Festival

September 24 - 26, 2010

The Festival will once again be bringing a variety of award winning films to Easton, Maryland. The Festival will open at the Avalon Theatre with a showing of a documentary on artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Academy Art Museum will host a reception of original artwork by Basquiat prior to the showing of the film.

Crossroads Community, Inc.           Bridging the Gap - A Whole Health approach to treating Mental Illness.

Crossroads Community Inc. serves adults with chronic mental illness. The Bridging the Gap Campaign will allow Crossroads to cultivate a whole-health approach by helping its consumers with personal needs and care while being treated for mental illness.
